Outside the summer season, winter on the Costa Blanca may surprise you! With a mild, sunny climate, far fewer tourists, and days in the 20ºC range! Here are some ideas to fully enjoy the landscape!

In winter on the Costa Blanca, the sunsets and sunrises are spectacular, so why not enjoy it on the terrace of a beach bar? These places often host live concerts by local artists, so don’t miss out!

Little pleasures

Gastronomy and good wines are waiting for you even in winter! Many great wineries (Villena, Pinoso, Monovar, Jalón, Alfas del Pi, Parcent, Teulada… ) offer visits to their vineyards and facilities with wine tasting.

 

 

Going for a walk

If you like walking, there are spectacular mountain routes of all levels that can be done all year round, as well as simple seaside routes, such as the Cabo de la Huerta route in Alicante, the Torres beach route in La Vila, the Albir lighthouse route, the Benissa ecological walk, the Benitatxel cliffs route or the Cova Tallada, from Denia.

Many towns have their own special charm: Jávea, Denia or Altea, for example, have a spectacular old town, while in Guadalest, the castle offers a breathtaking view of the turquoise lake, museums and numerous hiking routes. Also visit the palm grove of Elche, which is one of the 49 places declared World Heritage in Spain, and then Villa Joyosa, an incredibly colourful town!

 

 

Cultural heritage

The coast is full of museums, in Alicante for example, the MARQ shows the heritage of the different

civilisations that have passed through the province. Alicante is also home to MACA, the contemporary art museum with works by Miró, Juan Gris, Chillida, Antonio Saura, Tápies, Equipo Crónica and Eusebio Sempere, the alma mater of the project. In Valencia, the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias is a must-see, right next to the Oceanogràfic, largest aquarium in Europe. But each city has very interesting museums such as the chocolate museum in La Vila, the toy museum in Ibi, the firemen museum in Alcoy…

 

Sports activities

Paddel, Tennis, Cycling,… We can say that there is no lack of sports facilities! The sun is always shining and the temperatures are very pleasant, so it’s the perfect time to exercise. Cycling is a great way to discover the area and there are many places where you can rent bikes and even be part of organised tours. The coast is also full of lush green golf courses and sports fields of all kinds, some with spectacular views! And for the adventurous ones, what could be more spectacular than Via Ferrata and outdoor climbing to become one with the terrain?

 

Castles

In the south of the province, in Vinalopó valleys, there are almost ten castles worth visiting: The castles of Villena, Bañeres, Sax, Elda, Petrer, Novelda, Monovar, Castalla and Biar. Imposing castles that extend over several kilometres.

 

Natural reserves

Costa Blanca has 9 natural parks:

Located next to the city of Alcoy, the Carrascal de la Font Roja: 2000 hectares of protected area. Nearby, the Sierra de Mariola Natural Park, where Vinalopó River rises. Caves and snow pits are heritage remains to be taken into account.

 

The spectacular cliffs of Serra Gelada, between Benidorm and Alfás, is a coastal mountain range declared a marine-terrestrial natural park. In Calpe, the Peñon de Ifach is one of the symbols of Costa Blanca. Montgó Natural Park, located between the municipalities of Denia and Jávea, has more than 2,000 protected hectares and reaches the sea at Cabo de San Antonio. La Mata Natural Park

 

 

of Torrevieja and Salinas of Santa Pola is an essential wetland for many bird species. Come and see the Pink Lagoon!

During the colder months of the year the sea is usually calm so you can hire a boat for the day and visit the island of Tabarca and the small heavenly coves along the coast. For the more sporty of you, it is possible to rent windsurfers, paddle boards and other equipment. All you need is a suitable wetsuit and you are all set.
