MONDAY, a day in MORAIRA
Walking around the city
Let’s start a week on the Costa Blanca with a stroll through the charming little streets of this old fishing village.
Pass through its pretty shops and the castle that was built to protect the villagers from pirates.
Don’t forget the fishing port, full of fish in translucent waters.
Cap d’Or walk + picnic (Calle Puerto de Alcudia, Moraira)
A short distance away, head to Cap d’Or, with its grotto and watchtower, for a walk through the nature reserve of flowers.
Yes, it’s a bit of a climb, but it’s still very affordable and the return trip will only take us an hour.
Unless we decide to stop for a well-deserved picnic on one of these wooden platforms!
Portet Beach (Avenida del Portet 197, Moraira)
For those looking for a more tranquil spot, while the others are out walking, what could be better than the most beautiful beach in the area, at the foot of Cap d’Or?
Crystal-clear waters, turquoise blues, fish, starfish and octopus of all kinds, fine sand and very shallow water over a long distance…
It’s the perfect place to soak up the sun or play with the kids.
Restaurant “La casita” (Avenida del Portet 163, Moraira)
Let’s round off this wonderful day with a nice little restaurant nearby, “La Casita”.
With its simple but tasty cuisine and charming staff, you’re sure to have a great time.
And if you’d like to try a gastronomic experience, book a table in advance at “Le Dauphin” restaurant on the seafront at El Portet beach.
TUESDAY, a day in BENITACHELL/JAVEA
Cumbre del Sol Viewpoint (Calle Jazmines 161, Benitachell)
Let’s start the day off on the right foot:
The most beautiful viewpoint on the coast, with a panoramic view from Benidorm to Dénia via the Cap de la Nao lighthouse, the most easterly point on the Iberian Peninsula.
And finally, if the weather is fine, we’ll catch a glimpse of Ibiza…
Padel with sea views (Calle Thomas-Wilson, Benitachell)
The more athletic among us will love it!
Also in Benitachell, the Costa Blanca Norte Padel Club rents out its courts and rackets for a game with a sea view!
« Cala Clémence » restaurant (Carrer de la Barraca, Javea)
A short break at Restaurant Cala Clémence overlooking Cala del Portichol.
A very pleasant place serving good food at a fair price.
Cala del Portichol (Carrer de la Barraca, Javea)
Cala del Portichol (also known as Cala Barraca) is a pretty pebbly cove with small fishermen’s cottages with blue doors that remind us of Greece.
Opposite the cove is the island of Portichol (300 metres), of great botanical and archaeological interest, highly recommended and popular with divers.
If you like snorkelling, nature, peace and quiet, this is the beach for you.
If you’re a sand lover, you’ll be better off on the huge Playa Arenal.
Playa Granadella (Carrer del Pic Tort, Javea)
La Granadella is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches on the coast.
So if you don’t have time for a swim, drop in and see it from the road above – it’s well worth the diversions!
For those with a thirst for adventure, hire a kayak, as the coves along the coast of Javea are spectacular.
Restaurant “El Campo” (Travessera de les Cansalades, 134, Javea)
On the way back, we stop off at El Campo for an excellent dinner in a warm atmosphere.
A tasty fusion of cuisine from different origins in a particularly well-kept setting.
WEDNESDAY, a day at ALTEA
Guadalest Castle (03517 El Castell de Guadalest)
Today we’re off to Guadalest, where there’s something for everyone:
A stroll through the narrow streets, a view of the turquoise lagoon, walks around the lagoon, restaurants, museums of all kinds like the microsculpture museum!
Fuentes del Algar (Carretera de Callosa, 03510 Callosa d’en Sarrià)
Callosa d’en Sarriá is full of agricultural fields, including the delicious fruit that is so typical of the region: the níspero.
On the Carretera de Callosa, follow the signs to Fonts del Algar. Hidden away in the mountains, the Algar freshwater falls are a jewel of nature.
Don’t miss this place, admire the colours, listen to the water and take a dip – but be careful, it’s very cold!
Right next door, the Dino Park Algar will delight those who love dinosaurs!
Altea Old Town (Av. de la Nucía, 2, 03590 Altea)
The only way to get to Altea’s old town is on foot, and it’s uphill!
Take the pretty Calle Candelaria, wander through these wonderful cobbled streets until you reach the church square at the top.
The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, or Church of Our Lady of Consolation, is as pretty on the outside with its blue dome as it is on the inside, all white and gold.
The church is surrounded by restaurants, viewpoints and typical shops.
Restaurant “Quel que quieres” or “In Boca Al Lupo”
(Carrer d’Alcoi 2, Altea – Carrer Major 3, Altea)
If you like unusual places, go to Quel que quieres.
This charming little place is ideal for a drink, a coffee, and if you want to stay a while, a tasty meal!
For lovers of pretty spaces with a view and beautiful decor, here’s a tip: La pizzeria In Boca Al Lupo.
What a fantastic place, inside and out, every detail will transport you elsewhere.
THURSDAY, a day at CALPE
Peñon de Ifach (Carrer del Peñon 33, Calpe)
A must-see on the Costa Blanca, the Peñon de Ifach rock is a must on our itinerary.
Whether you want to see it from below or climb to the top on foot, this is a walk offering breathtaking views, the difficulty of which increases as you go along, allowing you to decide where you want to stop.
(Please book this walk online during July and August, as it is strongly advised not to go further than the tunnel with children).
Flamingo lake (Avenida Juan Carlos, Calpe)
It’s impossible to miss this large lake on Calpe’s main avenue, where there’s a good chance of seeing a large group of pink flamingos and other birds.
Calpe beach (Arenal-Bol Beach, Calpe)
Calpe’s sandy beaches are immense!
There are shops and restaurants all along the seafront, on either side of the Peñon, which looks very different depending on where you are.
Historic centre of Calpe (Plaça dels Mariners, Calpe)
Let’s meet in the casco antiguo, the old town at the top of Calpe.
Here we can follow the Tourist Route, which winds its way through the town’s prettiest streets, telling us all about its history.
Restaurant “Lapsus” (Calle el Torreón, 15, Calpe)
We’ll come across a few bars and restaurants along the way, but none more unusual than “Le Lapsus”.
Right in the heart of the old town, on the Route Touristique, this little restaurant, which mixes Spanish and Moroccan flavours, is a nod to history.
Postmodern Architecture (Partida Manzanera, Calpe)
The Red Wall and the Xanadu Building will bring this weekend to a spectacular close.
These buildings were designed by architect Ricardo Bofill in 1973, and it was the Red Wall that inspired Netflix to create the sets for its now cult series ‘Squid Game’.
FRIDAY, a day at BENISSA
Moraira Market (Ctra Moraira a Calpe 20, Moraira)
The best way to spend a weekend in Moraira is by visiting the market.
It’s held every Friday in Moraira’s main car park from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
It sells clothes, decorations and fruit and vegetables.
Every day of the week, one of the villages in the region has its own market.
Benissa ecological walk (Playa Fustera, Benissa)
Pack your water bottle, swimming costume, mask, snorkel and towel and get in the car to head for Benissa and its Paseo Ecológico.
This walk along the coast between Benissa and Calpe is the best way to discover the region’s most beautiful coves on a signposted path.
Restaurant, cove and water sports (Avenida Marina 333, Benissa)
After a 15-minute walk, we arrive at the Club Nautique de Les Basetes where we can enjoy a meal at the Oceana Club, a restaurant with sea views, cocktails and delicious cuisine.
After this interlude, it’s time to choose:
Relax in one of the fabulous coves, sunbathing and fish-watching
OR try your hand at one of the many water sports on offer, including kayaking, windsurfing, kite surfing, diving, etc.
SATURDAY, a day in VALENCIA
Valencia Old Town Car Park (C/ de l’Editor Manuel Aguilar)
Central Market of Valencia ( de la Ciutat de Bruges)
If you’re a food lover, if you love fresh produce, its colour, its flavour,
Valencia’s central market is a paradise you can’t miss
with its 300 shops open from 7.30am to 3pm every day except Sunday.
Plaza Redonda
Just around the corner is Plaça Redonda, or Round Square, Valencia’s most original square.
Inside, you’ll find craft and souvenir shops, accessible via 4 entrances at the points of the compass.
Built in 1840 by Salvador Escrig, it is one of the smallest squares in the city.
Horchatería Santa Caterina ( de Santa Caterina, 6)
In this magnificent Horchatería, just a stone’s throw away, you can enjoy the typical Valencian Horchata drink accompanied by its Fartons, or try an exquisite cup of Chocolate with a portion of Churros.
A Spanish horchata is a fresh drink made from soaked walnuts, ground and sweetened. Give in to temptation!
With its characteristic facade of traditional Valencian tiles, this place combines bohemian tradition and modernity.
Plaza de la Virgen
Make your way to the Plaza de la Virgen, crossing the Plaza de la Reina and then skirting the cathedral.
The Plaza de la Virgen is located on an ancient Roman forum and is considered to be the city’s most emblematic square!
« Rincón 33 » Restaurant (Carrer de la Corretgeria)
Is it time to fill your stomach?
Walk back along the Cathedral to the Rincón 33 restaurant for a delicious Paëlla Valenciana.
City of the Arts (Av. del Professor López Piñero)
Let’s change neighbourhoods, because spending a day in Valencia means contemplating the architecture of architect Santiago Calatrava’s incredible Ciudad dels Artes at least once.
As the building is surrounded by water, you can hire kayaks and transparent rowing boats for a tour with your partner or family!
Oceanogràfic and Science Museum ( de Eduardo Primo Yúfera, 3)
For €38 per adult (€28 for children), you can combine admission to one of Europe’s biggest water parks AND the Science Museum!
You can do all the experiments yourself! A day full of discoveries for young and old alike.
SUNDAY, a day at VILLAJOYOSA
Riurau Market (Carrer del Pinaret, 2, 03749 Jesús Pobre)
On Sundays from 9am to 2pm, a small market is held in the small village of Jesus Pobre.
Here you can discover local crafts and taste local specialities before setting off for Villajoyosa.
Take a walk in Villajoyosa (Av. País Valencia, 12)
Park at Av. País Valencia and head down towards the coast, passing through the Parc Censal.
Follow the dyke to the right and lose yourself in the colourful streets of Villajoyosa!
